HERE’S the key to creating GREAT memories…

line

film of your lifePart of living a passionate life is in creating wonderful memories that you can recall with joy.  I wrote this after my wedding… take a look and tell me how YOU create great memories!

As we are living a life experience, we are creating the raw footage of the movie of our lives.  In those moments, like in filming a movie, some things go the way they are supposed to and others don’t.  Directors don’t really fret, they know things can be fixed in the editing room later.  In those moments, their attention is continuously in the NOW, creating each scene in the moment.  Creating the experience.  Similarly, as we are living our life experience, we can stay present in the moment, creating each scene, creating the experience, and not fretting over what went our way or did not.  We will manage it later in the editing room.  In this moment, we are only to be present to continue creating great footage.

Then, ‘in the editing room’ – after the experience is over, each time we look back on the ‘raw footage’, we are creating the ‘movie’ or the memory of the experience. Like the directors, we can *choose* which scenes we want to look back on and which ones we turn our attention away from, thereby consciously creating the memory we will hold forever.  In the end, we relive the experience only by the memory that we created. And so this recalling part is very important and must be done deliberately.

Live your life experience fully, be present for it, and create lots of great footage. Then, carefully choose the scenes you recall and create the memory that captures those elements of the experience that you wish to relive again and again.  Given how many of our physical ailments can be attributed, at least in part, to mental upset, this practice may very well be a small key to good health and happiness.

And ACTION!!

What a great reminder… and what are YOUR thoughts??

One last word on Clutter, with Oprah’s help…

line

vision, declutter, chaosOn to a new passionate topic in my next post, but to bid our topic of DeCluttering farewell, I found this great blog post.

My favorite parts are highlighted.. what are yours?

Enough Already!: Peter Walsh on Oprah’s OWN Network

Do you miss the the TV show, Clean Sweep as much as I do? Well, if your cable company offers Oprah’s OWN Network, you’re in luck.  Peter Walsh, Professional Organizer Extraordinaire, is continuing his quest to help people get out from under their mountains of clutter in a new show called “Enough Already!.” I had the chance to watch the ‘sneak peek’ episode on Sunday night–it was an eye opening look at a family is crisis and the decluttering of their home.

I enjoy watching him but mostly, I listen to him with the ears of someone in the same profession, trying to pick up a tidbit or two that I could use to assist my own clients. He talks often about having a ‘vision’ for a room. A vision defines a space–once you know what you want for a room, you’ll know exactly what items should be in it and what items do not meet the vision of the room and should not be allowed to take up space there.

The mom on the show was having a tough time letting go of items that had memories attached to them. Here’s what Peter said to her. I thought this was brilliant… Continue reading

Not 1, Not 2, But *7* Ways to Stop Procrastinating!

line

procrastination, procrastinate, procrastinating, do it later, wasting timeA dear friend of mine asked me, after reading my post about de-cluttering, if I had anything for her on PROCRASTINATION…

And in fact, I do!!  And here it is.  I really like the ideas below because it is not just one method, but many different methods to beat procrastination in the moment!

What do YOU think of these?   Got any to add to the list?

There are a number of techniques to help you stop procrastination once and for all. If you can stop procrastination in your life just think about what you could accomplish and how much better you would feel.

People who procrastinate in excess are prone to feelings of guilt, anxiety and powerlessness. Why does procrastination occur?

It could be as a result of not wanting to do things or of not being able to do things. It could also be a result of fear. Many of us fear failure as well as success. Still others procrastinate simply because it works for them.

Procrastination is not something we should live with. When procrastination occurs, nothing gets done. And when nothing gets done due to procrastination, that’s when we feel down and worthless.

Feeling this way may be avoided with a number of techniques designed to stop procrastination:

1. You can stop procrastination by getting organized. Being unorganized leads to chaos and feelings of being overwhelmed. Stop procrastination by organizing your life.

2. Breakdown tasks into manageable units to stop procrastination. Smaller tasks are less overwhelming that large jobs.

3. Have discipline. Allow your desire for success to overcome your desire to put things off.

4. Positive motivation. Talk yourself up with encouraging quotes. Even very successful people feed their minds with positive input each day.

5. Get someone else´s help to stop procrastination. Ask someone to hold you accountable for completion of a task you have been procrastinating about.  For example, if you are putting off cleaning the garage, ask you wife to question you about when it will be completed several days before the due date.

6. Do the easiest or most enjoyable task first so that you get off to a good start. This works for some people while the opposite works for others. Some people like to get the unpleasant work out of the way so they can enjoy the rest.

7. Giving yourself a deadline can stop procrastination.

Procrastination should not be something you should live with. Successful people do not tend to procrastinate, instead, they stop procrastination because they know what needs to get done must get done.

It is not because they necessarily enjoy the unpleasant tasks which others procrastinate about but rather the strength of their desire for success is greater than their desire to procrastinate.

Procrastination should not be a hindrance to achieving your goal. Take a moment to recognize the signs and do something to overcome it and stop procrastination.

If you begin by rewarding yourself for small successes and stop punishing yourself when you do procrastinate, you will be able to develop new habits that, in time, will help stop procrastination.

Is CLUTTER getting in the way of your PASSION?

Ever feel too overwhelmed to be passionate about anything?  Like if you could see your closet floor or the smooth surface of your desk, that you might be able to think more clearly?  Yeah, me too.

Here’s a really cool article about how to clear some of that clutter and WHY that is so important.  In my mind, we must start there so that we can shine our light!  Take a look and let me know what YOU think!

We hear a lot about clutter and while you may think it is a lot of hype and has no affect on you, you would be wrong. Clutter affects many aspects of your life. Let’s have a look at how clutter affects you, and why it is important to conquer clutter.

Cluttered Closets

We fill our closets with “stuff.” Our closets are where we hide things, and they can actually indicate problems we do not even recognize on a conscious level that may affect your ability to deal with relationships, life, and work. The biggest problem is when we have cluttered closets we are actually smothering our ability to be intuitive.

Cluttered Kitchens

The kitchen has always been seen as the “heart of the home,” because it is here that we spend time with our family, it is here that we are nourished physically, mentally, and spiritually. Here is where meals are prepared with love and that love filters through the family unit.

Your kitchen gives clues about how well you are nourished and supported. A cluttered kitchen indicates a lack of support. Decluttering and cleaning your kitchen creates an environment where you are able to receive comfort and support that you need.

Cluttered Bathrooms

The bathroom is where we prepare to face the world every day. When a bathroom is cluttered it can indicate you do not value yourself. A clean, nicely decorated bathroom provides a place for more than care of oneself. It is a place to rejuvenate and it is even a tranquil sanctuary. The bathroom is the perfect place for fragrant candles, scented soaps, and luscious towels. Eliminate the clutter in your bathroom and transform your bathroom into a place of tranquility.

Cluttered Bedrooms

Bedrooms should be a place to rest ones weary bones and to rejuvenate for a fresh start. Adult bedrooms should also be a place for intimacy. When a bedroom is cluttered it becomes restless space. Your bedroom needs to be a relaxing space, which is why it needs to be one of the first places you declutter.

Cluttered Dining and Living Rooms

These are the two areas of the home where family and friends meet and entertain. It is also where we connect with the world through the television, engage our minds listening to music, relax and read, or discuss politics during a heated debate with friends.

When this space becomes cluttered it can become a place of isolation rather than entertaining. People just do not want to come into a place where there is clutter everywhere. They are uneasy the space itself is not relaxing. Have you buried yourself behind the clutter in your home.

There are other areas in your home. There is your garage, your basement, your attic. Sometimes these areas pose the worst cases of clutter. Nevertheless they need to be dealt with and they are not where you should move clutter to from other rooms in your house.

Clutter affects your mood, your well-being, and your overall life. Clutter is often a sign of a much deeper problem. The time to conquer clutter is now. It will be refreshing and just think how tranquil and relaxing your home will be when you are done.

Wow, I love this article.  It had me doing a mental checklist of which rooms in my home are de-cluttered and what I need to do about it.  Cool, right?

So… what are YOUR thoughts on this?  Any A-HAs?

Let’s light our world!

Such a sweet song…  so aligned with my own mission.

“There is a candle in every soul… Hold out your candle for all to see it…

Take your candle and go light your world.”

I would love to hear from you… what do you think of this song?

What came to your mind as you listened to it?
